BC PLAYER OF THE WEEK

As British Columbia's professional basketball team and part of our ongoing commitment to support grassroots basketball, the Bandits are excited to celebrate young basketball student-athletes across our province who are achieving success on and off the court through our FREE-to-participate initiative, BC Player of the Week presented by A&W Canada.


Each week of the school season, we will highlight a pair of student-athletes on our website and social media platforms. Additionally, student-athletes selected will receive a prize pack courtesy of the Vancouver Bandits and A&W Canada. If chosen, the nominator will be contacted regarding next steps on receiving a prize pack for the winner.

The selection criteria is designed to acknowledge athletes who illustrate a dedication on and off the court, and who are involved in their respective communities.

As British Columbia's professional basketball team, the Vancouver Bandits are excited to celebrate young student-athletes across our province who are achieving success on and off the court. These are the BC Players of the Week presented by A&W Canada and the Vancouver Bandits for the week preceding February 16, 2024. Alex Stoddard : Junior Girls, Abbotsford Christian School “In one of our final playoff games, Alex scored 28 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. She was a huge part of our team’s relatively successful season. Alex is also a multi-sport athlete, excelling not only in basketball but in water polo at the national level. On top of her daily practice and game schedule, Alex also manages to be successful in academics.” -Tym Berger, coach Lucas Kosa : Senior Boys, Delta Secondary “At a recent game, Lucas broke a Delta Secondary School basketball record scoring 75 points in a single game.” -Kayla Jow, athletic director They will each receive a prize pack courtesy of the Vancouver Bandits and A&W Canada. Arielle Tuazon-Cabido : Senior Girls, Hugh Boyd Secondary (Richmond) "Arielle works hard on and off the court. She isn't the tallest player but she has the most heart. She deserves recognition for her dedication and love for the game." -Jennifer Hayden, teacher sponsor Munroop Gill : Senior Boys, Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary (Surrey) "We have seen Munroop's work ethic & dedication since he came to the school, & I believe everyone is seeing the results now. He has placed himself in the conversation with the best players in BC, if not the best. These are the BC Players of the Week presented by A&W Canada and the Vancouver Bandits for the week preceding January 26, 2024. Bobby Raye Farrow : Senior Girls, Barriere Secondary "Bobby Raye is a hard working and dedicated athlete who plays with a high level of intelligence and is a dominant force on both ends of the court. However, Bobby Raye is not just leader on the Barriere Secondary Sr. Girls team, she helps coach the Jr. Girls team and has taken on the head coaching role for the grade 5/6 Boys team at Barriere Elementary where she coaches 20 athletes. We are beyond fortunate to have an athlete like Bobby Raye playing for our school and developing the future of our teams." -Rachael Bowser, coach Ixara Forstbauer : Junior Boys, Sardis Secondary (Chilliwack) "Ixara has began his high school career with a determination and passion to get in the gym and get better. He has led the Sardis Grade 9 Boys team to a 17-4 record so far this year, and led the team in most statistical categories. Along with being a committed player, Ixara has shown a high result in the classroom while being in the Sardis French Immersion Program. This 6'2" Guard/Forward has a huge upside and will be a big presence for Sardis Basketball in the coming years" - Kyle Graves, athletic director They will each receive a prize pack courtesy of the Vancouver Bandits and A&W Canada. Bridgette Hansen : Senior Girls, Killarney Secondary (Vancouver) "I would like to nominate Bridgette because of her relentless hustle on both ends of the court. She brings her best every game and practice. What she brings to games runs off onto her teammates and is a coachable player as well. She is a big part of why we have started off with a great record this season and are first place in our division so far." -David Knight, coach Aidna Sethen : Senior Boys, St. Ann's Academy (Kamloops) "Aidan is an amazing athlete and student. So far this basketball season, he has dominated the court with points and was a big contributor to his team's third place finish at a recent tournament, where he was also named a bursary recipient. Not only does he excel in athletics but in academics as well as a yearly honour student. "Tate is a great off-season leader that has kept team morale high throughout the pandemic. He leads by example during open gyms and weight training sessions. He enters the year with a 3.96 GPA and has demonstrated a strong passion for whatever is in fron of him." -Aldo Torres, Coach

"Sarah has been a key player in the Bateman program since her Grade 9 year. She is a quiet leader both on and off the court and a model of communication and composure. Victoria Curtis - Jr. Girls, Heritage Park Middle (Mission)


"Victoria is new to my basketball team and is quietly becoming a force. Her shooting proficiency has surprised me as she put up solid numbers leading her squad. She is often first on the court at practice, even the morning ones. I am impressed by her enthusiasm and positive attitude and look forward to the trend she has set." -Greg McNeill, Coach

BC Players of the Week - Dec. 13

Ethan Baron - Sr. Boys, Sir Winston Churchill (Vancouver)


"Ethan is a quintessential student-athlete excelling in the classroom and carrying the load on the court. He is averaging 26 points, 8 rebounds and 3 steals per game and was named an all-star and a scholarship recipient at a recent tournament. Ethan did all this while battling rib and hip injuries." -Quyen Le, Coach


Isabella Heffring. - Jr. Girls, Little Flower Academy (Vancouver)


"Isabella has worked incredubly hard over the last two years and has taken every opportunity during the pandemic to get better. At a tournament last weekend, she averaged 22 points over 3 games while fighting an ankle injury. Her leadership on and off the court has positively impacted our team as she truly leads by example." -Carlie Paxton, Coach

Emma Nguyen - Sr. Girls, RE Mountain (Langley)


"Emma is a hard-working player an student who shows patience on and off the court. She cares about others around her, always helping out and taking that extra step in being a leader for other players and students. I've coached Emma for two years and she works hard for every moment she has, be it fighting for a possession or sprinting back on defence." -Alexa Lyon, Coach


Troy Isaacs - Jr. Boys, Salmo Secondary


"Troy is an exceptional young athlete and scholar. His passion and dedication to the game has premeated in all aspects of the program. In this season's opening tournament, he led his team to a first place finish, averaging 28 points. Troy has been an exemplar of Falcons Basketball's Three R's: Respect, Resilience, and the Right way.'" -Shelby Anderson, Coach

Oliver Grey - Sr. Boys, West Vancouver Secondary


“Oliver is a very skilled player and is leading our team in points per game at 18.5 and rebounds per game at 10.5. He is also a straight A student, receiving all A's in his Grade 11 year and in the first semester this year.”  -Paul Eberhardt, Coach


Emma Lankmayr - Jr. Girs, Centennial Secondary (Coquitlam)


“Emma joined our team this year as a rookie. She brings positive and fun energy to each practice and is an encouraging teammate on and off the court. We appreciate her dedication to the sport and tremendous efforts towards the team and their success. BC Players of the Week - Jan. 17

Elijah Weiss - Jr. Boys, Elgin Park Secondary (Surrey)


“On Nov. 14, Elijah and his family were caught in a mudslide vehicle accident on Highway 7 near Agassiz. He was critically injured, suffering from 3 skull fractures and a broken jaw in 2 places. He was airlifted to BC Children’s Hospital when he underwent surgery. Elijah returned to play 8 weeks after the accident scoring 18pts, 11pts and 4pts in his first games back, all wins. His comeback, determination, work ethic, and recovery are nothing short of miraculous!”  -Chris Ellett, Athletic Director


Stella La Grange - Sr. Girls, Okanagan Mission Secondary (Kelowna)


"Stella is the ultimate team player and an incredible leader for her team. She competes with a resolve that nothing will stop her from achieving her goals and all that she is capable of. Stella is the type of player that consistently puts the team above herself and is often found in the weight room or gym working on her game and motivating her teammates to do the same. In my 17 years of coaching I have never come across a student athlete who is as dedicated, determined, coachable or as hard working.” -Meghan Faust, Coach

Cassidy Burns - Sr. Girls, Osoyoos Secondary


"Cassidy is a smart, hardworking, and versatile student-athlete. She is a great student in the classroom, volunteers in her community, and is the captain of the senior girls' basketball team. Cassidy’s leadership on the court is obvious and has driven the team to early victories in our season. Cassidy has been playing on the senior team since Grade 9 and her commitment to the game has turned her into a force on the court."  -Alex Vikner, Coach


Austin Salmon - Grade 8 Boys, Burnaby Central Secondary


"Austin led his team to a league-leading three straight victories and leads the team in scoring, rebounding, steals and blocks. Additionally, he is second in assists. Austin is what we describe as the ultimate two-way team player." -Jason Asuncion, Coach

BC Players of the Week - Jan. 31

Everett Swaim - Sr. Boys, AR MacNeill (Richmond)


“Everett is a crafty, elite, two-way player. His per game averages are 23.7 points, 23.5 rebounds, 8 assists, 4.1 steals, and 4 blocks. He is a true leader for our team and is well respected by his peers, teammates and teachers. He has committed himself to many hours in the community by being a volunteer scorekeeper, referee and coach. Everett is the epitome of a true student-athlete and an exceptional role model to our younger student-athletes.” -Justin Dy-Pe, Coach


Sydney Saydam - Gr. 8 Girls, Salish (Surrey)


"Sydney is a petite athlete with a lot of heart. She is always early and eager to practice. She has managed to develop her skills immensely this season. She's feisty and plays hard defence while offensively, she has a lot of drive constantly pushing her team up the floor. Sydney is quick to volunteer for scorekeeping when her team is not on the floor, supporting her school in multiple ways.  What Sydney may not bring in size and skill, she makes up for with her positive attitude and hard work ethic." -Cortnee Billon, Coach

BC Players of the Week - Feb. 7

Trever Duffin - Sr. Boys, Walnut Grove (Langley)


"Trever has been a force for us on both ends of the floor all season long. This past week, Trever had a big Triple Double night with 17 points, 10 rebounds, & 10 assists against a division rival. He has the ability to see the details within the game, and that has allowed him to be a tremendous passer for our team. Trever is simply one of the best pick & pop players I have ever coached!" -Aly Nuruddin, Coach


Alyssia Palma - Gr. 8 Girls, Holy Cross (Surrey)


"Alyssia is a very hardworking student athlete. She is a great leader on and off the court. She is very skilled, can play inside and out and her versatility sets her apart from everyone else.
