Thomas Kennedy and Adam Paige among 2022-23 U SPORTS award winners

Two Vancouver Bandits U SPORTS Development Athletes have been nationally recognized as 2022-23 U SPORTS award winners.
Thomas Kennedy is the winner of the Mike Moser Memorial Trophy as the most valuable player in U SPORTS men's basketball following an impressive campaign with the Windsor Lancers.
His 20.8 points per game average was ninth in Canada, as was his field goal percentage of 0.590. He was fifth in the nation in blocks, with 1.7 rejections per game. In addition, he set the University of Windsor men's basketball all-time scoring record with 1,479 points in only 83 career games. He also broke the school record for career blocks with 117.
Drafted by the Bandits in the 2022 CEBL U SPORTS Draft, Kennedy led the team and finished top five in the league in rebounds per game and field goal percentage in 12 games played.
Adam Paige was presented with the Ken Shields Award for student-athlete community service. With the University of Alberta Golden Bears, the Surrey, B.C. product averaged 14.3 points per game and 6 rebounds per game while shooting over 40 per cent from beyond the arc.
Paige is a volunteer basketball coach for several youth teams in Edmonton, mentoring young athletes who excel under his tutor. He was also a role model to a grade two class where he spent time volunteer student-teaching. Paige further improved his community by packing and delivering food hampers to those in need.
The 2022 CEBL season was Paige’s second with the Bandits, having initially been selected by the team in the 2021 CEBL U SPORTS Draft. Suiting up in 8 games in 2022, Paige’s summer was highlighted by a call-up to the Canadian Men’s National 3x3 Basketball Team at the Commonwealth Games held in Birmingham, England where the team finish on the podium with the bronze medal.
The 2022-23 U SPORTS men’s basketball national award winners were announced Wednesday at the All-Canadian Award Ceremony ahead of the 2023 U SPORTS FINAL 8 Men's Basketball Championship which begins Friday, March 10 in Halifax.
