FRASER VALLEY BANDITS SIGN KENNY MANIGAULT FOR 2021 CEBL SEASON

ABBOTSFORD, B.C., June 10, 2021 – The Fraser Valley Bandits
announced Thursday that the club has signed Kenneth ‘Kenny’ Manigault for the upcoming Canadian Elite Basketball League
(CEBL) season.
A six-foot-five guard/forward from Charleston, S.C., Manigault brings a decorated resume built on the foundation of a tremendous college career that saw the talented swingman win National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Division I men’s basketball player of the year in 2015 and lead the ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) in scoring as a member of the Macau Black Bears in 2019-20.
Manigault’s professional career has taken him across the globe, with stops in Australia, Poland, Finland, Macau (China) and recently, Israel.
“I'm excited to join the Bandits family. This is a team that will give everything that it can for a full 40 minutes. I'm looking forward to being aggressive on both sides of the ball and inspiring our fans to follow the team and be part of something special that's growing on the west coast," Manigault said.
After playing 16 games for the Wichita State Shockers in 2009-10, Manigault transferred to USC Aiken and later to the University of Pikeville (UPIKE) in Kentucky. Over the course of two seasons (2013-2015) with the UPIKE Bears, Manigault emerged as a star. In his final season with the Bears, he averaged 19.4 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.4 steals per game. As a senior, Manigault ranked first in total steals and his scoring average ranked him 16th in the NAIA.
Prior to the outbreak of the coronavirus and the subsequent cancellation of the 2019-20 season, Manigault was a strong contender for ABL import MVP. In addition to averaging 26.2 points, Manigault stuffed the stat sheet with 8.6 rebounds, 6.1 assists, 2.5 steals and 1.1 blocks per game. Due to the pandemic, no end of season awards were announced by the ABL; however, Manigault’s stellar play caught the attention of Bandits general manager Kyle Julius, who coached against Manigault as the bench boss for the Formosa Dreamers (now members of the P. LEAGUE+).
“Kenny is a special player. Coaching versus Kenny in the ABL was quite the task. He is an ultra versatile player who also plays with toughness and an edge. Kenny fits our style perfectly and I can't wait to see him in a Bandits jersey battling in the CEBL,” Julius said.
“Kenny Manigault was one of the best players on our team and showed great leadership on and off the court. He will bring his talent and commitment to winning to any team,” added Lukas Peng, general manager of the Macau Black Bears.
The Bandits open the 2021 season at Abbotsford Centre when the club welcomes the Saskatchewan Rattlers for Fraser Valley’s home opener on Saturday, June 26. All regular season games will be live streamed on the free CBC Gem streaming service, cbcsports.ca, the CBC Sports app for iOS and Android devices and on a new OTT streaming platform that the CEBL will unveil this spring.
A league created by Canadians for Canadians, the CEBL has the highest percentage of Canadian players of any professional league in the country, with 80 percent of its 2020 rosters being Canadians. Players come from the NBA G League, top international leagues, the Canadian national team program, and top NCAA and U SPORTS programs. The Vancouver Bandits, BC’s professional basketball team in the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL), are committed to making a positive impact through basketball and growing the game across British Columbia, and this dedication was highlighted this past week in Kelowna and the Okanagan area. Coming off the recent announcement of Kelowna HOOPFEST, a brand-new basketball festival featuring a CEBL neutral-site home game in partnership with the City of Kelowna, Bandits head coach Kyle Julius spent time at five Okanagan-area secondary schools and both of Kelowna’s post-secondary men’s basketball teams, as part of the Vancouver Bandits third-annual Bandits School Tour. Julius and Bandits staff visited Mount Boucherie Secondary School, Immaculata Regional High School, Okanagan Mission Secondary, Rutland Secondary School and Kelowna Secondary, as well as the men’s basketball teams at UBC Okanagan and Okanagan College, providing dedicated and tailored practices along with motivational talks and training materials. Launched in 2023, the Bandits School Tour is supported by the Bandits Community Foundation, Preston Chevrolet and Envision Financial and offers a unique opportunity for student-athletes and volunteer coaches to learn directly from BC’s only professional basketball coach. “What stood out most during our visit was the impact basketball can have when it is rooted in mentorship and connection; it is clear how vibrant the basketball and business ecosystem is in the Okanagan,” said Bandits team president Dylan Kular. “We are thankful to the Okanagan and Kelowna communities for welcoming us so openly, and this is only the beginning. The Vancouver Bandits and the City of Kelowna announced today that the club will host its first neutral-site home game in franchise history when it faces Saskatchewan Professional Basketball Club on Saturday, June 6, with tip-off set for 6:00 p.m. PT at Prospera Place in Kelowna. This Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) matchup will serve as the marquee event of Kelowna HOOPFEST, a new basketball festival presented in partnership with the City of Kelowna designed to celebrate basketball at every level. Kelowna HOOPFEST will feature the Vancouver Bandits vs. Saskatchewan Professional Basketball Club, a youth 5x5 tournament, a coaching clinic, and additional programming to be announced.  “This is a historic moment for our club and for professional basketball in British Columbia,” said Vancouver Bandits team president Dylan Kular. “We are bringing the same incredible energy our Bandits fans get at Envision Financial Court at Langley Events Centre. The Vancouver Bandits announced that reigning Canadian Player of the Year Tyrese Samuel has re-signed with the club for the 2026 Canadian Elite Basketball League season. Making an immediate impact during his debut CEBL campaign in 2025, Samuel led all players league-wide in field goal percentage (65.9) while finishing top three on the Bandits in points (21.7) and rebounds per game (10.8) in 15 games played. He broke the club’s single-game scoring record during his CEBL debut on May 15, 2025 recording 36 points along with 12 rebounds, and was named CEBL Player of the Week on August 11, 2025. “ We’ve got some unfinished business to take care of ,” said Samuel. The 6-foot-10, Montréal, Que. product capped off his dominant season by being named Canadian Player of the Year and a Second Team All-CEBL selection at the 2025 CEBL Awards . His stellar play also earned him a roster spot with the Brooklyn Nets during the 2025 NBA Summer League and an Exhibit 10 contract with the Phoenix Suns during 2026 NBA training camp. “We are all very excited that we get another chance to work with Tyrese, he is a special player and an even better person. Tyrese is one of the best Canadians to ever play in our league and we are looking forward to building our roster around him,” said head coach and general manager Kyle Julius. The 25-year-old forward has spent the 2025-26 season with the Phoenix Suns’ NBA G League affiliate, Valley Suns, where he has appeared in 24 games and logged 8.5 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 18.2 minutes played. A top Canadian prospect while in university, Samuel played four seasons at Seton Hall University from 2019 to 2023 before transferring to the University of Florida for his graduate year, where he earned Second Team All-SEC honours. Internationally, Samuel has represented Canada on two occasions, earning a silver medal at the 2018 FIBA U18 AmeriCup and appearing in the 2019 FIBA U19 World Cup. The Bandits open the 2026 CEBL season on Thursday, May 14 on the road in Saskatchewan before coming home for two exciting matchups as part of 2026 Home Opener Weekend at Envision Financial Court at Langley Events Centre. The home opener will be played on Friday, May 22 at 7:00 p.m. PT against the Edmonton Stingers, while the second game will take place on Sunday, May 24 at 5:00 p.m. when the Bandits host the Calgary Surge in a rematch of the 2025 CEBL Western Conference Quarterfinal. Winners will advance to the Conference Finals on Saturday, August 8, also single elimination, with higher seeds hosting each round. The CEBL Finals will be a best-of-three series from August 12–16, marking the first multi-game playoff series in league history: Game 1 – Wednesday, August 12 Game 2 – Saturday, August 15 Game 3 (if necessary) – Sunday, August 16 The lower seed team will host Game 1, while the higher seed will host Games 2 and 3 (if necessary), replacing the previous single-elimination Championship Weekend host team model. “These historic changes to our playoff format represent a major milestone for the CEBL and our fans, and they mark a natural progression as the league continues to grow and evolve,” explained CEBL President Tyler Mazereeuw. “Our focus remains on delivering the best possible experience for our teams, players, and fans, and this is another step forward in fulfilling that mission.
