Bandits and Basketball BC host coaching clinic at Langley Events Centre for coaches across B.C.

Over 70 coaches from British Columbia attended an instructional session at the Langley Events Centre, led by some of Canada’s most decorated coaches.
Vancouver Bandits head coach and general manager Kyle Julius, and Canada Basketball Women’s National Team coaching alumni Allison McNeill and Mike McNeill headed the three hour event, which promoted teaching for coaches and to connect local coaches with professional, Olympic and collegiate-experienced coaches.
Julius and the McNeills showcased drills and offered advice for coaches across all levels of basketball.
“We had an excellent experience. Allison and Mike did an amazing job of covering the game from all aspects,” said Julius.
Allison and Mike are former college head coaches, coaching at Simon Fraser University and the University of Oregon.
The two joined Oregon’s women’s coaching staff from 2001 to 2005, leading the Ducks to an NCAA tournament berth in 2005.
Allison and Mike joined the Canadian Senior Women's National Team from 2001 to 2015 as head coach and assistant coach, respectively, guiding the team to its first appearance at the 2012 London Olympic Games since 2000 where they advancing to the quarterfinals, equalling the best performance by the Canadian women’s national basketball team Allison was inducted into the B.C. Sports Hall of Fame in 2016.
The experience and lessons provided were well received by local coaches who are hoping to enhance their teams. Teams also attended the clinic with their coaches to implement the drills.
“My goal is to take these drills, and have [my players] executing it at such a high level by the time they're in grade 12,” said one coach who attended.
The Bandits, along with Basketball BC, remain committed to the ongoing development of basketball at all levels. From coaches to players to officials, the Bandits continue to further the growth of basketball in B.C. throughout the year.
