COACH KANNEMEYER'S 3 KEYS VS. SSK - JUNE 4

Home Cooking
The Bandits come home after a gruelling but successful three game road trip. Two wins versus one loss is enough to crank up the anticipation of playing in a new arena in front of thousands of fans. Langley Events Centre (LEC) has successfully hosted our basketball high school provincials for over a decade, providing a great venue that has space behind each basket and seating directly behind the benches. Fans no doubt will be on top of the action, feeding off the juice of the opening few minutes. If the Bandits can click early and engage the crowd, the move from one arena to another will be afterthought. There would be nothing better than a win to cement the legacy of the Fraser Valley Bandits and Langley Events Centre as the heart of pro basketball in the province of British Columbia.
You Have to Be Lucky to Be Good…
After last Saturday's triple bypass special against the Hamilton Honey Badgers, where each team in Elam time took turns trying to give the game away, the Bandits undoubtedly will look to reimagine their fourth quarter execution. It was more of the same versus the Rattlers on Wednesday. Missed free throws, turnovers, blown execution and the luck of the whistle buried the Bandits at the end of a tough three game road trip. How do they improve? The game tape alone would be enough to scare the roster straight into focusing on simply trying to get “good” shots in Elam time. But I think narrowing an extensive repertoire of play designs could be the answer here. Identifying who has the matchup advantage or simply running a bit more high pick and roll to ensure where and when shots are coming from. As the players get more comfortable with each other I am sure this will become a strength rather than a weakness, but for the home opener the Bandits will need to sharpen their fourth quarter execution.
Rotation Station
Versus the Rattlers on Wednesday evening, Malcolm Duvivier returned to the team after sitting out the first two games. When an impact player returns, it can instantly shake up a team's rotation. Ty Rowell and Kadre Gray saw their minutes dip as the coaching staff looked to incorporate Duvivier into the lineup. The hot hand of Shane Gibson also cut into the playing time of Gray and Rowell. Someone might have to be relegated to the bench duties Saturday at LEC. My anticipation is that the coaching staff will sit Rowell, the Walnut Grove product, to allow the other guards to find their rhythm. Campbell has been consistent, and Adnam has shown he can play anywhere or with anyone. Gray, Gibson and Duvivier will need to figure out how to coexist as they all have attacking personalities. It is up to the coaching staff to define their roles prior to Saturday so the Bandits' guard rotation can become one of the league's most formidable groups.
