BANDITS ANNOUNCE JAMIE PEARLMAN OF ADELAIDE 36ERS AS LEAD ASSISTANT COACH

LANGLEY, B.C., May 17, 2022 – The Fraser Valley Bandits announced Tuesday that Jamie Pearlman will be the club’s lead assistant coach for its upcoming Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) season at Langley Events Centre (LEC).
Pearlman has an extensive playing and coaching career that has taken the native of Canberra, Aus., around the globe. Prior to his coaching career, Pearlman played in 243 combined games with the Cairns Taipans and Canberra Cannons in the
National Basketball League (NBL).
Since 2020, Pearlman has been a key member of the
Adelaide 36ers’ basketball operations department, serving as the team’s lead assistant since 2020.
“Being part of the Bandits for the club’s first season in Township of Langley is a great opportunity to work with a dedicated staff that is focused on helping players improve and creating a unified team that wants to compete day in and day out. We have an exciting group of players and I am eager to get going and show our fans what we can do,” Pearlman said.
Prior to Adelaide, Pearlman spent time as an assistant with the Taipans from 2012-18 before inking his first head coaching gig in 2018 with the Nelson Giants in New Zealand. Pearlman led Nelson to a postseason berth and developed a strong relationship with
incoming Bandits guard Kyle Adnam.
An impressive season in Nelson led Pearlman to earn his next head coaching stint with the Westports Malaysia Dragons of the ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) in late 2018. At the time, Bandits general manager Kyle Julius was also coaching in the ABL as head coach of the Saigon Heat, which allowed him to build a relationship with Pearlman.
“Coach Pearlman is a tremendous coach. I have seen him firsthand win with less talent while building teams with toughness, togetherness and high level execution. Coach Pearlman brings a wealth of high level experience as a player and a very successful coach to our organization. Our players are very fortunate to be able to learn from Coach Pearlman this summer,” said Bandits general manager Kyle Julius.
Pearlman will be an integral cog in Bandits head coach Mike Taylor’s staff and is joined by a talented cast of new and returning staff members who will work in tandem to manage various facets of Fraser Valley’s basketball operations department.
“Jamie has made a great first impression and brings outstanding experience to our team. He will play a key role in our staff and I believe he will make a great impact on our players. We are all excited about Jamie and the chance to work together this summer to bring the best out of the Bandits,” Taylor said.
Fellow coaches and consultants joining Pearlman on Taylor and Julius’ staff are:
- Ryan Thomson - Assistant Coach
- Current head coach of the Lakehead Thunderwolves (U SPORTS)
- Tony Scott - Assistant Coach and Senior Advisor
- Returning coach from the Fraser Valley Bandits’ 2021 coaching staff
- Joshua Reddy - Assistant Coach and Video Coordinator
- Current player development coach and video coordinator for Victoria Vikes’ men’s basketball program (U SPORTS)
- Levon Kendall - Player Development Consultant
- Former Fraser Valley Bandits forward (2019 and 2021), Canadian senior men’s national team and Kitsilano Secondary alumnus
The 36ers also announced Tuesday that Pearlman has extended his contract with Adelaide and will assist head coach C.J. Bruton in leading the 36ers for the 2022-23 NBL season.
“I am excited to continue to work with Jamie next season. He has extensive knowledge of the league
and will continue to develop in Canada this offseason. I look forward to building the team with
Jamie for NBL23,” Bruton said.
Fraser Valley opens its fourth CEBL season on the road on Wednesday, May 25 at 4:30 p.m. PT against the Ottawa BlackJacks. Following a three-game road swing to start the year, the Bandits will debut at LEC for their home opener against the Rattlers on Saturday, June 4.
