Current British national team member and former Long Island University standout guard signs with Fraser Valley ahead of the team’s second season

ABBOTSFORD, B.C., Feb. 18, 2020 – The Fraser Valley Bandits announced Tuesday the signing of Kyle Johnson. Johnson played four years of NCAA Division I basketball for Long Island University from 2007 to 2011 before embarking upon a professional playing career that has taken him around the globe.


The 6-foot-4 guard from Scarborough, Ont. has played professionally in France, Italy, Greece, Cyprus and is currently enjoying a stellar season for Stjarnan. Johnson is posting averages of 15 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game on 48.3 and 35.4% shooting from field goal and three‑point range, respectively.

“Having played in some of Europe’s top professional leagues and representing Great Britain at some of the highest international competitions, I am excited to come home to Canada this summer and continue my professional career in British Columbia,” Johnson said.

“Coach Julius, his staff, and the entire front office are committed to winning and building a culture for a team that is a family, both on and off the court. I look forward to contributing to the progression of the team and making meaningful connections with the Fraser Valley community.”

In addition to representing Great Britain at the London 2012 Olympic Games, Johnson is known by coaches and teammates as a consummate leader, both on and off the court who brings two‑way play and a competitive spirit to the locker room.

One of the most notable performances of Johnson’s career was when he scored 51 points on 17-of-22 shooting for the London Lightning in 2017, who were then coached by current Bandits Head Coach and General Manager Kyle Julius. Johnson becomes the first official player signing of Julius’ tenure with the Bandits.

“Kyle Johnson is a special basketball player and an even better person. KJ was a major piece to our championship team in London three years ago where his leadership and shot making was dependable night in and night out. KJ is a world-class shooter and has the ability to guard multiple positions. KJ is the perfect player to build our culture around,” Julius said.


The Bandits begin their second season in the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) on Friday, May 8 when the club takes on the defending CEBL Champions, the Saskatchewan Rattlers, at Abbotsford Centre. Season tickets are on sale now at thebandits.ca and on Ticketmaster.

Bandits Single Game Tickets On Sale now

The Vancouver Bandits announced Wednesday that single game tickets for all home games for the 2026 Canadian Elite Basketball League ( CEBL ) season are available for purchase to the public. The Bandits sold-out 75 per cent of regular season home games during the 2025 CEBL season so fans are encouraged to secure their tickets as soon as they can. The Bandits will tip off the home portion of their schedule with a pair of games as part of Home Opener Weekend at Envision Financial Court at Langley Events Centre (LEC). The home opener will be played on Friday, May 22 at 7:00 p.m. PT against the Edmonton Stingers, while the second game will take place on Sunday, May 24 at 5:00 p.m. when the Bandits host the Calgary Surge in a highly-anticipated rematch of the 2025 CEBL Western Conference Quarterfinal. “There is nothing like a Bandits Basketball game. Kur Jongkuch called up to Canada national team at FIBA World Cup qualifiers

Vancouver Bandits forward Kur Jongkuch has been called up to the Canadian men’s national team for Window 2 of the FIBA Men’s World Cup 2027 Qualifiers, as announced by Canada Basketball . Originally from Juba, South Sudan before moving to London, Ont. at a young age, this will be Jongkuch’s first-ever call up to Canada's senior men’s national team roster. He was previously named to Canada’s training camp squad for Window 1 of the World Cup Qualifiers in November 2025 , and also competed on Canada’s men’s U23 squad in 2022 where he captured a bronze medal at that year’s GLOBL JAM invitational tournament. Jongkuch has appeared in 36 regular season games across three seasons for the Bandits, averaging 7.1 points, 7.7 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.3 blocks in seven games played during the 2025 CEBL season. Following his 2025 CEBL season with the Bandits, he signed with Telekom Baskets Bonn of the Basketball Bundesliga, Germany’s top flight and one of the basketball leagues worldwide. Canada, who are ranked fifth in FIBA’s men’s world rankings, will face Puerto Rico on Feb. 26 at 7:10 p.m. ET / 4:10 p.m. PT in San Juan, Puerto Rico, before travelling to Kingston, Jamaica to take on Jamaica on Mar. 1 at 6:00 p.m ET / 3:00 p.m. PT. Mitch Creek called up to Australia men's national team for 2027 FIBA World Cup qualifiers

Vancouver Bandits forward Mitch Creek has been called up to the Australia men’s national team for the upcoming 2027 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers, as announced by Basketball Australia. The reigning CEBL Most Valuable Player and All-CEBL First Team member captained the Bandits during the 2025 season, where he appeared and started in 20 games and averaged 24.4 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.5 steals in 34.4 minutes played. Following his stellar sophomore campaign with the Bandits, he signed with U-BT Cluj-Napoca in Romania for the 2025-26 season in EuroCup, one of the premier pro basketball leagues in the world. Hailing from Horsham, Victoria, Creek has appeared in 20 games for the Australia Boomers. This call up marks his first appearance for his country since 2019, where he competed at the 2019 FIBA World Cup Qualifiers. Australia, who are ranked sixth in FIBA's men's world rankings, will face Guam on Thursday, February 26 at 1:00 a.m. PT before taking on the Philippines on Sunday, March 1 at 1:30 a.m. PT.

3x3 Basketball Action Lands at Guildford Town Centre this Family Day weekend

3x3 basketball action will be taking over Guildford Town Centre this Family Day long weekend as the Vancouver Bandits and Basketball BC host 3x3 Clutch. 3x3 Clutch is a joint partnership between BC's professional basketball club and Basketball BC that is designed to increase awareness and interest in 3x3 basketball through collaborative events hosted across British Columbia throughout the calendar year. Set to run Friday, February 13, to Monday, February 16, 3x3 Clutch will welcome nearly 250 young athletes from across the Lower Mainland competing on a custom-built court setup at Guildford Town Centre. Athletes will be competing in the following age groups; Boys U12, U13, U14 and Girls U12, U13. This weekend’s games at 3x3 Clutch are open to the public; spectators are welcome to attend for free as no admission fee will be charged. This upcoming 3x3 Clutch event will mark the first time that a 3x3 basketball tournament will be held inside a shopping centre in British Columbia, following in the footsteps of recent 3x3 basketball events in Canada including in Edmonton during Summer 2025. “Hosting the first-ever 3x3 basketball tournament inside a shopping centre in British Columbia speaks to how creative and accessible this sport can be. Our partnership with Guildford Town Centre is built around growing the game in meaningful ways and bringing community together,” says Dylan Kular, Vancouver Bandits team president. “3x3 basketball thrives in community spaces and this event shows how the game can adapt, grow, and reach new audiences in exciting ways.” In addition to exciting 3x3 basketball action, the weekend will also feature several youth development clinics led by Bandits coaching staff, and interactive basketball opportunities for shoppers and the public.
