3 KEYS TO THE GAME - JULY 5 VS. NEWFOUNDLAND
Fraser Valley looks to return to form against a talented Growlers squad.

The Little Things
On the recent two game slide, the Bandits have lost a bit of their edge. During their winning streak the team seemed to win every loose ball and race to the floor. They got all the lucky bounces on the defensive glass that allowed them to get out and run in transition.
But their luck was created by relentless hustle. All five guys would fight their own parents to dive on the floor. Maybe teams have seen the Bandits’ early season determination and have come out with the same enthusiasm for punishment. Or it is back to basics that caused the team to win five in a row only two games ago.
Ground & Pound
In the most recent losses, the Bandits have given up key offensive rebounds at the wrong time leading them to climb out of a hole heading into Elam time.
In the last game, every key rebound fell into the hands of Daniel Walden-Mullings – ultimately costing them the win. To get back into the win column the team will need to focus on having all hands on deck boxing out, with every man being physical at the point of attack.
Don’t Poke the Bear
When it came to shutting down Jalen Harris and Khalil Ahmad, the Bandits struggled to force them into tough contested shots early. Both were able to get easy buckets at the rim with the help side arriving late. When the helpside arrived early, the Bandits have become more foul prone allowing shooters to get their rhythm at the line.
Particularly frustrating has been the mid-ball screen coverage that the team has used within several different strategies to shut down opposing offences. Early and often I would like the Bandits to stick with either trapping or hedging the mid-ball screen to make the point of attack give up the ball – make the role players of the Growlers beat you with contested outside shots.
