3 KEYS TO THE GAME - JULY 1 VS. SCARBOROUGH
Fraser Valley looks to hold its position atop the standings in rematch vs. Scarborough. Here are Cassidy Kannemeyer's 3 Keys to the Game against the Shooting Stars.

Stop Jalen Harris
A former second round pick of the Toronto Raptors, and arguably the most dynamic scoring threat in the league, Jalen Harris will likely be the main focus of the Bandits’ defence on Friday night. Against the BlackJacks, Harris toyed with his defender whenever he chose to, gallivanting into the paint with a series of hesitation and crossover moves. Harris looks the part as well, with legitimate NBA two-guard size and explosiveness, he has the ability to navigate around larger defenders while airborne or simply just dunk over them.
If he has a weakness it is his killer instinct. The other night versus the BlackJacks, Harris had multiple opportunities early to destroy the opposition's spirit but seemed to back off from the opportunity.
The Bandits have some of the best perimeter defenders in the CEBL and will no doubt look to assign either Alex Campbell and Malcolm Duvivier to bully Harris early to get him out of rhythm. Both are very capable, of course, and will enjoy the assignment of shutting down the league's smoothest scorer.
3 in the Key
The Shooting Stars lack interior size, toughness and depth this season. This is to be expected from an expansion franchise, but it has been the team’s demise in their five losses. The Bandits will look to pound the paint with interior touches early to establish local forward James Karnik, who has been a revelation after losing U SPORTS standout Thomas Kennedy to Canada’s U23 Canadian National Team for the next few games. On every shot expect to see at least three to the offensive glass for the Bandits. Alex Campbell is especially great at this. He loves to sneak in from the corner and tip live ball rebounds out to his teammates. His effort has been infectious this season, as many of the other Bandits guards–even one of the club’s more slender guards in Kyle Adnam–have gotten their nose dirty on the offensive glass.
Getting the Band Back Together
The Bandits bench this season has taken on many different forms as player injuries and other personal commitments have kept the coaching staff on their toes. During the team’s winning streak the team has seen Kadre Gray, Maxie Esho, Malcolm Duvivier and others step up in key spots when the team has needed a lift. Duvivier will likely start on Friday and the Bandits will potentially look to reincorporate Murphy Burnatowski and his torrid three-point shooting back into the lineup. It is a good problem to have because during their absence the team has had to rely on a pair of Valley locals in Adam Paige and Ty Rowell. Both have been solid in their limited minutes and will be ready to step up again if their number is called. This is the way, the Bandits way.
